Its marine territory is close to 500.000 square kilometers. Isla del Coco totals over 2,400 hectares, and would add to the maritime zone by more than 97,235 square kilometers. This beautiful island is covered by tropical forest and situated 480 kilometers southeast from Peninsula de Osa, in the Pacific coast.  Costa Rica has been recognized for having one of the most solid democracies and transparency, not just in America but in the world. It has one the highest human developments in the region and was the first and only nation in the world to abolish its army in 1948.
